Assessment of Private Sector Involvement in Climate Change Related Research, Development and Innovation in South Africa

Description:
CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST Assessment of Private Sector Involvement in Climate Change Related Research, Development and Innovation in South Africa This study sets out to understand which organisations/entities are active in climate change related research, development and innovation (RDI), what kinds of activities are prioritised, what is the magnitude and nature of climate change RDI investment in the private sector, and how this compares to and complements public investments. The task aims to do the following: 1. Identify entities investing in climate change-related technologies in South Africa. 2. Provide an assessment of financial support to climate change-related technologies in the private sector. 3. Provide an assessment of the extent and nature of corporate sector investment in climate change-related research and technology. 4. Identify opportunities for South Africa to improve private sector investment in climate change-related technologies. 5. Identify some case studies of promising or successful investments in climate change-related technologies by the private sector. 6. Identify any climate change technology gaps relevant to the private sector, based on international best practice, where South Africa should focus attention. The study is not limited to any specific economic sector, however, waste, energy, agriculture and water have been earmarked for special focus. The investigation may highlight others. The private sector is taken here to include state-owned-enterprises such as Eskom, Transnet, SAA and the various Water Boards, but to exclude Science Councils. Should you be interested in taking on this task as a part-time independent researcher, please contact Ms Nadia Algera (nadia@assaf.org.za) for further details. The period for submissions of expression of interest ends 15 June 2018.
